How to apply for a teaching post in Luton
To apply for a post within a Luton primary, junior, infant, secondary or special school you can submit an online application through the 'jobs and careers' section of our website.
The primary pool
The application form will be online the week before Christmas. The pool operates during three weeks in March, with a closing date on the Thursday of February half term.
If you are accepted into the pool, your details will be circulated to all participating schools. If a head teacher feels that you are suitable for a position at their school as vacancies arise, there will be no further formal interview, but you will be invited to visit the school.
This will give you the opportunity to meet staff and students and to ensure that the post is the right one for you.
The pool does not offer any guarantee of employment in Luton, but in previous years everyone accepted into the primary pool has been offered a position in a Luton school within two months of the interview.
The primary and secondary database
You can complete an online application. Once the form is submitted, your details will be circulated to all Luton schools with relevant vacancies. If your application matches the criteria of a vacant post, the school will contact you and invite you to attend for an interview.
There is no time limit for the submission of applications, but early applications will obviously be seen by a greater number of schools.
Directly to individual schools
You may, of course, submit applications to individual schools. All teaching positions in Luton schools are advertised on our website or in the local press and sometimes in the Times Educational Supplement.
You can search for contact details and location maps for all Luton Schools via Luton's Directory of services for children and young people.
Safer recruitment policy
CVs will not be accepted for any posts based in schools.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff to share this commitment.
Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
